We discussed in great detail the communication factor between departments and how we could resolve this problem. Some suggestions were; Put a one way speaker in our area so we are able to hear the information from system control. Ask the telecom department what could be done to reset the radios to pick up two way conversations and another suggestion was to put our new door closer to the operations floor so we could hear activity.
We did agree on putting a lock on the door until the security door is replaced, and confirmed we needed to do more research with other departments to resolve the communications issue.

Preparing and Delivering Informative Speech 1

I gave my speech regarding power outages because I dispatch technicians accross Nebraska for trouble calls. I watched a safety presentation regarding workman's compensation. She went through the process step by step and used power point for key information. When it was time to move on to the next slide, she said next or paused slightly. I thought that took away from the speech. She made good contact with her audience and addressed their questions confidently. I felt she knew the information and if I ever had an issue with workers compensation I would feel confident in her abilities to handle the claims. She did have some paper's in her hand when she started the speech that were all out of sort and she waived them around a few times before she put them aside. She mentioned she was running out of time and that made me feel like she would get to her main point but it was several minutes before she wrapped up. She ended her speech with emphasizing the importance of having Long term disability which was one of her key points in the body of the speech but not in the introduction. Over all it was hard to follow the contents of her speech but her presentation was good with body language and her vocal variety put emphasis on key points in the conclusion.

Online Research Exploration

I searched topics relating to Taekwondo, because my husband and older kids study Taekwondo and I was searching the different organizations. Pastor Ken Fairbrother was giving a speech in an open forum about HOPE.
He addressed the audience with a question:"When is a candle it's brightest?" Someone responded that it was in the darkest time that the candle seemed brightest. That was his way of starting the audience in thinking of what he was about to say. He then asked about life and how we felt darkness related to us. There were a variety of answer's from the audience; in illnesses, in low times, in dark times. He wanted to be sure we were thinking about a candle being bright in the darkness and how that could represent our life being in a dark time and God being our candle that shines through the darkness. He used scripture to give examples of people who cried out to God in their dark times and how we too cry out to God in our dark times and that is good because we do acknowledge there is a God and he is who we turn to. I don't know that I would have done anything different because he had the attention of the audience, he used a variety of issues to present how this applied to different circumstances and I could relate with what he said.

Self-Inventory Worksheet

I have a simple life. My Family, work, and school consume my time so my list of self inventory revolve around these three important things. I'm devoted to my family and try to keep up with all the things going on in their lives. We are active members in our church and volunteer as time allows. Work is slow because the beautiful weather has kept power interuptions at a minimum.I am learning the electrical aspect of my job through daily involvement in dispatching for Public Power Partners. I have enjoyed studing economics because it is new territory for me and very interesting to see how the economy runs. If I had a chance to read I would read a novel by Iris Johansen because she writes great mysteries. My dream job is working number's for a large company. I hope to get my degree soon so I can persue that dream.

Speech of Self-Introduction

I am on Module 3, Speech of Self-Introduction. Writing my self-introduction was complicated at first. I had a speech written about where I work and decided that it was allot of technical information and I am not really about work so I didn't go any further with it. I have to say that once I stopped and thought about what drives me it only took me a short 30 minutes or so to write my speech. Maybe because I really feel like I am a positive person and am blessed that my cup is always half full to nearly overflowing. I don't have a problem speaking in front of people if it is a topic I truly believe in.

Community Speaking Event Spch 111

Last week I was able to attend a speaking event at the courthouse.
I chose to write my paper on the speech a plaintiff’s lawyer made as opening statements for his client.
He prepared for his speech by locating a wide binder and he laid it out in front of him at his table. He briefly spoke to his client and an assistant before the honorable judge entered the room. It was soon after the judge took his seat, that he instructed the lawyer that he could begin opening statements.
The speech was in a story form and it was about his client. He had been approached by another gentlemen to do some work for him. He agreed to do the work and soon after he completed the work the gentleman asked if he would be willing to work on a project with him. The project started and both men anticipated building a business. The original proposal was to invent a machine of sort that would add to the value of a product that was on the market. They traveled to meet with some prospective buyer’s whom expressed a genuine interest in the machine that they were proposing to build. Another issue came along that didn’t directly involve the machine, but it involved the product line the machine was going to be built for. The product was malfunctioning and the manufacturer had only one item they were interested in. His client was skilled in working with the equipment and it was mentioned that he would be able to do repairs on the product that was not working. The company, whom was only interested in one item in this product line, decided to hand over their remaining inventory to the business that was being established. His client made fixes to the equipment because he was the technical side of the business. He knew only what the defendant told him regarding business relations. His client trusted his business associate and worked hard to get their business running with reliable equipment but there was a falling out between the two gentlemen. He ended his speech by reciting the Nebraska law regarding partnership and stated that the evidence he would present would show that there was a partnership and his client wished for it to be dissolved and he wished for a jurisdictional accounting of the business. The lawyer seemed very confident in his presentation and there were no questions following his speech.

Community Speaking Events, SPCH 111

My assignment is to list some community speaking events I can attend.
I was able to listen to 4 speeches that took place at the Court house.
The speeches were presented by lawyers in a case of "Dissolution of a Partnership."
